Celebration of 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week 2026

IQ City Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Durgapur, successfully celebrated the 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week on 21st September 2026 with enthusiastic participation from faculty members, staff, and students. The event was organised to spread awareness about drug safety, the reporting of adverse drug reactions (ADRs), and the vital role of pharmacy professionals in safeguarding public health. Pharmacovigilance is the science and set of activities concerned with the detection, assessment, understanding, and prevention of adverse effects or any other drug-related problems. In India, the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI) works to monitor the safety of medicines, and the National Pharmacovigilance Week is observed every September to encourage healthcare professionals, students, and patients to report ADRs and contribute to safer medication use. Inaugural Session The programme commenced at 10:00 am with the arrival and warm welcome of the dignitaries, coordinated by Ms. Moumita Karmakar. The ceremony was formally inaugurated with lamp lighting by all the dignitaries, followed by a Saraswati Vandana and welcome song presented by Richa Chatterjee of B.Pharm 2nd year, which set a graceful and devotional tone for the day. The Chief Guest and the invited speaker were then formally welcomed and felicitated by the Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Bonagiri Chandra Shekar and Prof. (Dr.) Sai Krushna as a mark of respect and gratitude for their gracious presence. Welcome Addresses Respected Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Bonagiri Chandra Shekar delivered the welcome address, in which he emphasised the importance of pharmacovigilance in ensuring patient safety and encouraged students to develop the habit of identifying and reporting adverse drug reactions as future pharmacists. He was followed by the Registrar, Dr. Manthan Dilip Kumar Janodia, who also addressed the gathering and extended his good wishes for the success of the programme. The resource person for the day was then introduced to the audience by Mr. Rupam Mukherjee. Technical Session The technical session, held from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, was delivered by the guest speaker, Dr. Debjyoti Halder. The session offered participants valuable insight into the concepts and practice of pharmacovigilance, the importance of ADR monitoring and reporting, and the responsibilities of healthcare professionals and students in strengthening the drug safety system. The speaker engaged the audience throughout, and the session was highly informative and well received. A lively question and answer session, coordinated by Ms. Moumita Karmakar, followed, in which students and faculty members interacted with the speaker and had their queries answered. This was followed by short addresses from Mr. Rupam Mukherjee, who shared their thoughts on the significance of the occasion. Poster Presentation Competition A poster presentation competition on themes related to pharmacovigilance was organised to encourage creativity and deepen students’ understanding of drug safety.
